Michael Vartan joins Zoe Saldana in 'Colombiana'

Michael Vartan will star opposite Zoe Saldana in "Colombiana," an action movie produced and co-written by Luc Besson that is being directed by "Transporter 3" helmer Olivier Megaton.

The film centers on a woman (Saldana) who as a child witnessed her parents' murder in Bogota. She grows up to become a hitwoman by day but in her personal time engages in vigilante murders to lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents' deaths.

Vartan will play Saldana's boyfriend, an artist with no idea what she does for a living who is her only link to normalcy.

Besson wrote the script with Robert Mark Kamen; the pair previously teamed to pen "Taken," "The Transporter" and "The Fifth Element."

Besson is producing with Pierre-Ange Le Pogam and Ariel Zeitoun.

Production will begin in late summer in Chicago, New Orleans and Mexico City. The action thriller is set to be released Sept. 2, 2011.

Vartan, repped by ICM and manager Stephen Hanks, stars opposite Jada Pinkett Smith in TNT's drama series "Hawthorne." His film credits include "Rogue," with Sam Worthington, and "Monster-in-Law," starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda.

Michael Vartan Heads For Colombiana

Michael Vartan is back on familiar Alias territory for Colombiana, playing the boyfriend of a kick-ass and rather deadly smokin' hot female. He'll play the other half to Zoe Saldana's assassin in the Luc Besson-produced, Olivier Megaton directed thriller.

The story has Saldana playing a woman whose parents were murdered by gangsters when she was a child. She works for her uncle as a hitman, in the hope that one day she'll find the person responsible. Vartan plays her artist boyfriend, who's apparently her only link to normality.

Shooting starts soon in Chicago, Mexico City and New Orleans, for a release in September 2011. Besson wrote the script with Robert Mark Kamen, so expect something in the vein of their previous collaborations for The Transporter, Taken and The Fifth Element.

Michael Vartan and Zoe Saldana are headed to ‘Colombiana’

It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard news on Avatar actress Zoe Saldana’s next film, Colombiana, but now THR’s Heat Vision is reporting that Alias co-star Michael Vartan has joined the cast of the film as Saladana’s on-screen boyfriend.

Columbiana comes from producer Luc Besson (Leon) and director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3), and is written by Besson and his long-time writing partner Robert Mark Kamen, the film is:

…set in Latin America and the U.S. Saldana [plays] a young woman who, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.

Vartan’s role is that of the unsuspecting boyfriend – an artist who has no idea what Saldana’s character does for a living, but who is her “only link to normalcy…” Production on Colombiana will begin in late summer in Chicago, New Orleans and Mexico City. The film is set to be released across the US on September 2nd 2011.
